As one of the nation's largest and fastest-growing youth rowing clubs, Sarasota Crew is at the forefront of this exciting sport. Founded in 2002, Sarasota Crew is a non-profit organization with a mission to provide middle and high school-aged Sarasota County youth with positive, competitive rowing experiences that cultivate high standards of personal integrity and self-esteem, promote teamwork and sportsmanship, and instill a lifelong commitment to a healthful lifestyle.
Our Location and Rowers
Rowing out of beautiful Bay Preserve in Osprey - home of the Conservation Foundation of the Gulf Coast - our roster includes close to 400 elementary, middle school, novice and varsity rowers, as well as Master Program Rowers, ages 23 years and up. In addition rowers from many universities and colleges call Sarasota Crew home for winter and spring training.
Our Competitions
Sarasota Crew competes in the sport's most challenging categories and many of our rowers have gone to the nation's and world's top events - the US National Championships and the World Championships.
A Lifetime of Rowing
Most of our high school seniors continue to row in college, and in recent years Sarasota Crew athletes joined rowing teams at top colleges and universities such as Harvard University, Yale University, Princeton University, Brown University, Columbia University, Stanford University, Oxford University, University of Virginia, The US Naval Academy, United States Coast Guard Academy, West Point, U.S. Air Force Academy, Trinity College, The University of California / San Diego, Boston University, George Washington University, University of Wisconsin, University of Washington, Northeastern University, University of Durham, Mount Holyoke, University of Miami, University of Central Florida, University of North Florida, Florida Institute of Technology and many others.
Your support of our general fund allows Sarasota Crew to continue to offer our excellent rowing programs to more than 400 youth athletes, purchase additional equipment, supplement our coaching staff and expand our programs and services.
Sarasota Crew has a goal to make rowing accessible to all Sarasota youth regardless of their financial situation. Rowing is the vehicle Sarasota Crew uses to develop youth into student-athletes who through their personal development acquire the self-esteem, athleticism, discipline and confidence to be more successful in school and in life. We know that all youth will benefit from this positive developmental experience.
We offer scholarships, based on demonstrable need via an application process, which covers all or a portion of the tuition. In 2016, scholarships accounted for approximately 15% of our High School Tuition income. Our goal is to increase scholarship funding and to collaborate with more local organizations to make rowing accessible to all interested youth.
In addition, we do our best to never turn away an athlete who wants to attend a regatta. Supporting the scholarship fund will allow us to have every athlete on the water at the races!
By supporting the Equipment Fund you can enhance the fleet and equipment that has propelled our members to national championships several times.
