Summer High Performance Camp

High Performance Camp Summer 2021

Open to U23, U19 and U17 athletes. Just graduated high school and considered 19 in the rowing world? - come join the U23 program and get ready for college rowing! We will have the coaching staff to service all levels and ages of rowing. See below for much more detail about the program and COVID return to rowing and racing items.

Sarasota Crew High Performance camp includes intense on the water rowing (sweep) and sculling instruction. Land, weight and erg training. Squad meetings and presentations on topics such as nutrition, race preparation, and film review. This training portion of camp will be used to prepare for racing at USRowing Club Nationals in Camden, NJ. If USRowing decides not to host Club Nationals we plan to offer racing opportunities in Sarasota on the Nathan Benderson course.

To be accepted - Ergs will be taken into account but we realize there is much more to making a good rower than their current erg PR. Our goal is to help you improve your PR while becoming a better rower. We have seen huge improvements from athletes in a short period of time when they surround themselves in the right atmosphere with the right training plan. Please tell us about yourself as we will accept rowers by considering the whole picture. Coxswains? - submit results, experience and audio and tell us about yourself.

The camp is open to any and all entrants limited only by number and age. The camp will be best suited for a rower with some experience that fits into one of the following categories:
U23 Men & Women
- Born 1999-2002 (2k ideally under 6:40 for men and 7:40 for women)
U19 Boys & Girls - Born 2003 or 2004 (2k ideally under 6:50 for men and 7:50 for women)
U17 Boys & Girls - Born 2005 or younger (2k ideally under 7:00 for men and 8:00 for women with more flexibility for younger athletes)
Younger athletes are always eligible to race "up" if they are deemed ready to do so.

COVID Requirements
We will require all participants be tested no longer than two days before the start of camp and before their travel to Sarasota. A negative result must be supplied to arrive at camp. Assuming the easy testing sites in Sarasota are still available in June we will take all athletes to get tested again a day or two into camp. Participants will be asked to stay in their room with only their roommates for the first few days of camp (while not at practice). We are planning our own bubble and will limit participants exposure to anyone outside of the camp. Campers and staff will truly eat, breathe, sleep and live rowing in our bubble!

Camp Staff

Camp Director - Rick Brown
